Masahiro Elite Musashi Katana

I Recently purchased this sword and my expectations were high because I own a masahiro sword and read the review for this sword. But not as good as expected first the wood core of the tsuka was showing by the wrap because the same (rayskin panels) were pushed to the side by the mekugi. The menuki are plastic and it shows. The saya is not tight and sword and easily come out. Also the blade is not sharp. Other than that it is an ok sword, it is not loose but it is glued as it shows a little. My hope were high even though it was an inexpensive sword. I would have been more prepared, but all the reviews showed very high.

New Review

In my last review I said that there were specs on the blade I couldn't get off. Well I used some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the blade with that, and the specs came off. My guess is that those specs for dried oil that they put on the sword for shipping. Then I oiled the blade with 3 in 1 oil and it looks beautiful!!

Good Sword But...
Ryan (Hanahan, SC) 6/28/2010 7:33 PM
Just got my sword today and it is a great sword for the price. The only couple things i found wrong with my purchase is that the sword sits loosely in the saya and the blade has little specs on it that i cant seem to get offf other than that it is a great sword.

well worth it

read other reveiws before ordering, only gripe is that it takes a little work to remove tsuka. great balance and as for sharpness i quartered a thrown orange cleanley right out of the box.

I bought this sword back when the site was still the dragons edge, anyway its got good balance and a pretty thick blade. The edge was pretty good for 60 dollar sword and it cut well. once went through a frozen soda bottle filled with ice. With a little help from a wet stone this sword could sell for much more in my opinion. Over all this a wrothy sword for practice and display and if you have given thought to buying this than you might as well pick it up while you can.
