Each piece in the Great wave Series (SH5004 Katana, SH5002 Wakizashi, & SH5022 Tanto) is stylized with the renowned Tomoe motif. The tsuba, fuchi, & kashira are made of black iron and marked with the Tomoe crest (mon). The blades of the great wave katana are hand-forged from T10 high-carbon steel and are differentially tempered using traditional claying methods. The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. Each piece has a deeply lacquered black saya with a one-piece brass habaki construction. Real ray skin (same) is used on the tsuka, and the tsuka-ito and sageo are made of premium woven Japanese black cotton. The great wave katana is constructed with a large o-kissaki and is ideal for cutting exercises (tameshigiri).

A great blade, extremely sharp, features a very nice o-kissaki.
The only complaint would be about the tsuka which is of a length and shape I love but I find it too thin for me so I don't feel perfectly comfortable about the grip. But apart from that the sword is really great. Perhaps it is a bit too heavy for myself (well, every single website will tell you the blade is thicker than most other blades) but still I would see no reasons to regret a penny spent for it :)

nice piece! I got this one really for the tri-ying yang designs on the tsuba and handle wich goes with my ryumon okinawa piece and this paul chen sword has nice thick and extremely sharp blade. Not gonna cut with it, decor only, but I did cut myself easily while cleaning it. Felt like a papercut but three times more painful!
