The Raptor Series, A new line from Paul Chen Hanwei is a series of cutting katanas which has been designed for the practitioner who does not necessarily have access to traditional cutting mats, but wishes to practice and perfect his cutting technique. The blade of the Raptor katana is hand forged in 5160 high carbon steel and is specifically heat treated to produce very high resilience and greater tolerance to misdirected cuts than a conventionally differentially tempered blade. The edge geometry is configured to facilitate the cutting of both soft and semi hard materials without chipping, allowing the user a wider range of targets.

SH2417 -- Raptor Shobu Zukuri

The Raptor Shobu-Zukuri (Iris Leaf) blade has an elegant shape and powerful cutting ability. Notable for the absence of a Yokote transition, this blade design became popular during the Nanbokucho era (1336 ~1392 AD) and its popularity continued into the Muromachi period.

Made by Hanwei.

Excellent Sword
Christopher Love (Rathdrum, ID) 6/7/2010 7:13 PM
This is the first sword I have ever bought and am extreamly impressed with both the sword and service I received. I am not impressed with display swords, so this sword is exactly what I was looking for, a fully functional sword. It is something that is nice to look at, yet you would not be afraid to train with it. The battle wrap is awsome and the blade is beautiful. The service was outstanding. Swords of might got my order out very quickly. Very good job. I will be purchasing other items from them in the future.

A must have!!!

The overall look and appeal of this sword was stunning despite it's simplistic design. The matte finish saya adds a fine touch as I'm not too fond of the laquered sayas. The blade was without flaw and was almost blinding as it reflected the sunlight. I LOVED the battle wrapped tsuka, and the refined cotton felt like velet as I handled the sword. The overall katana was light as a feather compared to the 4 lb/blade heavy Chinese war sword I bought here recently. Moreover, the balance was superb and it allowed for quick and controlled katas. I did some test cutting on some 3 inch branches which the raptor cut with no difficultly what so ever, and NO damage to the blades edge!
