The Paul Chen Practical Plus Katana is an exciting addition to the Hanwei Samurai sword line, providing a very economical cutting sword as dependable as the Practical Katana, but using more traditional fittings and construction methods. The blade is forged and differentially tempered (HRC60 edge, HRC40 back) and the hamon is prominent. The Practical Plus Katana features genuine Same (Rayskin) on the Tsuka, with a wrap (Tsuka-Ito) specially developed for its gripping qualities. The long tang is double-pegged for security. The fittings of the Practical Plus katana are decorated in a Japanese Dogwood motif with dragon menuki, and the handsome Tsuba is of an iron "sunburst" design with a brass habaki.

Light, fast, LETHAL! This is the sword I use most of the time. Takes one hell of a beaten. Still holds an edge that is not to be played with. A great economical cutter!

The PPK is one of the greatest entry-level katanas available, and from one of the greatest producers (Paul Chen of Hanwei). It comes extremely sharp (as well as the other PC I got) and the balance is excellent.
I was turned away by the leather tsuka-ito at first, however I've come to love it more than the crappy cotton that most katanas in this price range come with!
Highly recommend this katana to anyone looking for a functional katana that can certianly cut when you need it to

Another great purchase from Swords of Might! My Hanwei Practical Plus Katana arrived today right on time as promised. With trembling fingers I opened the packaging and was rewarded with the sight of a beautifully finished Paul Chen Katana. I noticed as I drew the blade from the Saya that the fit was perfect. The blade was lightly covered with oil to protect it during shipping and the Tsuka was covered with a protective cloth bag. I removed the Tsuka cover to find a superbly finished Same and Tsuka-Ito, very tight. The brass Menuki are Fu Dogs. The Kashira is tight to the handle and properly tied. The Tsuka is double pegged to the tang with wooden Mekugi. The blade itself is a thing of beauty. A beautifully polished slender, superbly balanced work of art with prominent hamon. This Katana is a dual purpose showpiece and cutter. Thank you Hanwei, and thank you Jason for once again providing outstanding service and advice. You have earned a loyal customer in me and I will be back to purchase more swords from you in the future. I highly recommend Swords of Might to anyone looking for high quality swords at the best prices along with outstanding customer service.
