  1. Great sword for the price

Posted by C. Clay, Florida on 30th Nov 2012

Unboxed the sword last night. It is VERY sharp. The build quality is higher than expected. It did have a layer of oil on the blade, but was easy to wipe off. If I am ever in the market for another blade of this type, I would not hesitate to buy another.

  2. A Superb Weapon...

    This katana = Epic Win.

I could end the review there but, I’ll add a little more.

I’m 6’2, 190 pounds. Because of my arm-length and height I’m able to apply a slightly above-normal amount of snap-leverage to a stroke which plays to the strengths of this katana. For tameshigiri, I can’t imagine a better blade than this one, which – out of my 13 katanas – immediately became my favorite.

Frankly, I feel like I could cut the main gun off an Abrams tank with this thing.

However, the style I usually practice is a single-handed, fast attack: either the draw is the attack or I throw the saya on the draw and follow it with an immediate stroke. For that kind of high-speed finesse-attack, I’ve been having trouble with this katana. I simply think I’m too weak to whip the deeper, heavier blade around the way I’m used to.

So – in my case - it’s accurate to call this a cutting sword: that’s exactly what it’s perfect for.

I think a man with more normal arm strength could probably use this as a fast-attack katana but, I can’t.

Something that’s interesting but not a “con” is what I’ve learned from this katana: it’s the bo-hi that gives a katana that distinctive whistle when swung correctly, as opposed to the “whoosh” of a poor stroke. The lack of a bo-hi on this katana means the blade is basically silent when swung correctly. This really confused me at first….I thought I was swinging the blade horribly wrong.

  6. practical XL

Posted by Unknown on 24th Apr 2012

I got this sword about a year ago and i am more than happy with it. Dont let a thing like XL make you think that because your not a large person its not rite for u. I am onley 5'8 and 115 lbs. and i wield it with one hand. It came out of the box the sharpest thing ive ever seen, id say sharper than a razor and with a strait cut it feels so smooth you woudent even feel the blade going thru the target. the onley thing id say was not perfect about the sword was the tsuka ito. after 1000 swings or so it started to slide down. but the blade its self is a phenomenon. i plan on doing business with swords of might in the near future u have great deals and a masive stock of katanas!

  7. Practical XL

Posted by Unknown on 24th Apr 2012

This sword is the perfect addition to the Practical line. If you like a little heavier blade that cuts like butter this is it. I will have to own all 4 of them, the Practical, the XL, the Wakizashi and the Tanto. What a set! Swords of Mights is the Best. Talking to Jason is like talking to an old friend.

  8. Amazing!

Posted by Bradley Shoaf (Fort Riley, KS) on 18th Apr 2012

Jasons video review of the XL is dead on, pretty basic. Then you get to the blade and its really amazing. This is my 4th katana from SOM and I will not buy from anyone else. SOM service is 5 star!
