I know the sword is supposed to sit snugly in the scabbard (yes, yes, I know it's called a saya) but Ryumon have overdone it. It's not "press-out-with-your-thumb" snug, it's not press out with anything snug - it's stuck! I couldn't get it out at all, and my husband managed with effort. Now when it's out the problem has solved itself - I can't get it all the way back in, so the saya kind of hangs half way on the habaki... The pommel looks much better on the photos than in real life. Mine is kinda black, and one can barely distinguish the dragon. That disappointed me; I love the way the pommel looks on the promo photos. Also, even though the sword seems well put together, the handle isn't very nicely done; it needs to be re-wrapped, and I'm not so sure I'll be able to do that. Okay, on to the positivie. The sword feels nice and solid to hold, and it is very sharp. I only have positive things to say about the blade. It is a cheaper product, and I'm thinking they've put less money into appearances than into useability; my Wakizashi wants to cut!

I had none of the troubles or issues of the previous rating, in fact, I'm completely satisfied with this sword. The blade is very sharp and nicely polished. The furniture is all tight and fits perfectly. The ito on mine is very tight and well executed. The blade is a bit thick but overall balance is good. It actually weighs about the same as my full size Musashi folded katana but that's fine for a short Wak. I definitely prefer the higher quality Musashi blades more but they make very few Wakizashis. This is a great alternative in my opinion. The Ryumon is very close behind in quality all around. In regards to the previous poster's complaints about the tsuba and kashira coloration, it's very easy to buff the raised portions to a shiny bright finish if you so wish to. All in all a great little Wakizashi for the money.
