Description

Due to demand, the Paul Chen Hanwei Practical Pro Katana (SH2162) has an extended tsuka and a thicker and longer blade. The blades are constructed from hand-forged, high-carbon steel and are differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. The Practical Pro has a fine polish to it compared to others in the practical series. The tsuka is wrapped with synthetic black leather for its gripping characteristics and is double-pegged for safety. The saya is done in a deep black lacquer with a black Japanese cotton sageo. The fittings (koshirae) are done in antiqued black iron. The katana is stylized with a round Kuruma tsuba, which represents the Wheel of Dharma, symbolizing the Buddhist concept of the Noble Eightfold Path. For those interested in an economical katana that can stand the rigors of heavy cutting (tameshigiri), the Practical Pro katana is an excellent choice.

This is the same sword Morpheus used in the Matrix Reloaded movie.

Having owned this sword for several months now, I can honestly say its quality is beyond question. Beyond having a simplistic beauty, it just FEELS right, and cuts even better. The only downside I would give this weapon is that it is really not meant for shorter wielders. If you are 6′ or over though, this comes highly recommended.

This is a great training sword for the serious user. The length and weight train strength and form–this is my hard workout tool. Cuts well, with no loosening so far. The blade polish is mirror, the hamon prominent. The fake same is forgivable. The leather wrap is tight and even, but a little slick (compared to the other PC practical katanas)–this is the only real “con”. (The menuki are a bit large, which disrupts the wrap over them.) If you like heavier, long-handled swords, this is a great choice.

This is a great sword. The tsuka is quite long, but looks nice. The leather wrap is nice, and tight. The hamon is prominent. The blade also has a nice polish, and comes very sharp.

I purchased this katana for cutting. I have never had a katana for cutting that compare to the practical pro. For the money this is an excellent value and a fantastic sword for those wishing to get into cutting

What can I say? I have blades that cost me up to $950. This sword is the best of all. Here’s the kicker. I actually got it in one of the grab bags.
