Description

Miyamoto Musashi, arguably the most famous swordmaster in Japanese history, fought more than 60 duels before retiring and writing his famous treatise on swordplay, the Book of Five Rings. Development of the two-sword style of swordplay, with the Daito (long sword) and Wakizashi being used together, is credited to Musashi. Mounted in black, the Musashi Elite is faithful to the original down to the famous double-ring iron tsubas. The tsuka-ito is in leather over ray skin. The blade is hand-forged in high-carbon steel, with new geometry to enhance cutting ability. It is edge-tempered using the traditional clay tempering method, resulting in a distinct hamon. Edge hardness is HRC60, back hardness HRC40. The grip is double-pegged to the tang for safety. Supplied with a protective cloth bag and traditional maintenance kit.

First let me start my saying I ordered this sword on a Tuesday and it was delivered to my door on Saturday… That’s with free shipping too! I had a couple of questions so I emailed Jason at swords of might. He responded promptly… Thank you for your help Jason! I wanted a larger sword being that I am 6’5. I was going to go with the practical pro elite katana because it had a 14 in tsuka/handle that would fit my monster hands better. However… I just couldn’t pass up the deal swords of might was offering on this Musashi Elite katana. Most sites are selling this sword for $600-725. It lists for over $900. I couldn’t believe I got a Paul Chen Musashi Elite for well under $500. That is a super deal on matter how you look at it. I was initial worried the tsuka would be to short for me. It’s listed at 11 inches. Well, I don’t know if Jason found this particular one for me after my emails or I just got really lucky. The tsuka on my Musashi Elite is 14 inches long. I am very happy to say the least. The 14 inch tsuka fits my hands perfectly. The same/rayskin is of high quality with large bumps throughout. The leather Ito/wrapping is very tight and evenly spaced. The whole tsuka was done really well. There isn’t a shake or rattle anywhere. The blade measures 30.5 inches from the tip to the tsuba/hilt. The overall length is 44.5 inches. This is a larger sword that is listed on the factory website. These are all hand made pieces so every sword will be slightly different. I consider myself lucky for getting a sword that fits my larger frame perfectly. I own a number of katana and I have to say this Musashi Elite is one of the sharpest blades I have ever held. You can actually feel how hard the edge is. It’s sharp and hardened perfectly. The sori/curve of the blade is very beautiful, it curves gracefully and evenly. The saya/sheath is made of heavy hard wood. This isn’t your typical cheap soft wood saya. This is a heavier, perfectly fitted saya with buffalo horn on the mouth and tip. The blade fits tightly with no rattle. You can hold he sword upside down in the saya and it won’t fall out. It’s not overly tight though, a firm push of the thumb releases it very uniformly every time. The tsuba is the classic Musashi design. The menuki are nice and large. They consist of a hat and oars to symbolize his duel with Sasaki Kujiro. All and all I am thrilled with my purchase. The price, shipping, customer service, and product all far exceeded my expectations. The Musashi Elite is an amazing sword, a serious sword due to its sharpness and solid constructions. I wish I could give it 6 stars.
